The Tehama Linux desktop currently is installed with the KDE desktop. Some users may wish to use the Ubuntu desktop, a gnome based desktop that would come standard with a Ubuntu 18.04 installation.
We can use the following procedure to install the ubuntu-desktop package.
Open the Konsole application or terminal to a command prompt.
sudo apt update
sudo apt -y upgrade
- Check to see if the file /var/run/reboot-reguired exists
- If the file exists reboot the desktop
sudo rebootThen reconnect to the Linux desktop
sudo apt install -y ubuntu-desktop
During the ubuntu-desktop install, you will be prompted to select a display manager. Leave it set to the default pcoip-agent-standard. Do not change the display manager to gdm3 or sddm or you will not be able to connect to the desktop after it is rebooted.
sudo rebootThen reconnect to the Linux desktop and you will be running the Ubuntu desktop
Note: The ubuntu desktop will prompt you to upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04, this is not currently supported.
