Getting Started Overview
The following pages will walk administrators and managers through the initial setup steps for the Tehama platform.
Use this guide if you fall into one of the following setup scenarios:
A. You have been invited to create an organization and a Room for your corporation in Tehama.
In this scenario, your corporation is completely new to Tehama. Create a new organization/account in Tehama, and join it as its first user (the Org Admin user).
Create a Room in your new organization (the org that creates a Room is the Room's owning organization) and either connect it yourself, or invite someone else to connect it - either to a network in your own corporation (making your organization the Room's connected-to org (the access org)) or to a network in another corporation (making that corporation's organization the connected-to org).
Then you can proceed with administration tasks, such as adding members to your organization and the Room, and adding Desktops for them in the Room.
B. You have been invited to connect your corporation's network to an existing 'Room' owned by another corporation's Tehama organization, which may require you to create an organization for your corporation in Tehama.
In this scenario, your corporation has been invited by another corporation with a Tehama organization and Room to connect their Room to your corporation's network. If your corporation is completely new to Tehama, this means you first need to create a new organization/account in Tehama, and join it as its first user (the Org Admin user). Otherwise, you can simply log in to your existing Tehama organization with your existing Org Admin user role.
Next you can accept the invitation to join your organization to the Room as the Room's connected-to org (the access org) and connect it to your corporation's network.
Then you can proceed to add members to your organization, if necessary, and propose their membership in the Room. The Room owning organization will provide them with Desktops.
C. You have been invited to join your corporation to an organization and a Room as a manager, by your own corporation, to help connect the Room or perform administration tasks in the Room.
In this scenario, you have been invited by your own corporation to join its Tehama organization and to be a member of a Room, to help configure/administer it. You will join the organization with the role of Org Manager or Room Manager.
If your organization is the connected-to org in the Room (the access org), connect the Room to your network and manage the connection.
If your organization owns the Room, perform administration tasks such as adding members to the Room or provisioning Desktops for Room members.
If your organization is not the Room owning organization (connected-to or user but not also owning), perform administration tasks such as proposing members to the Room.
D. You have been invited to join your corporation to an existing 'Room' owned by another corporation, which may require you to create an organization for your corporation in Tehama.
In this scenario, your corporation has been invited by another corporation with a Tehama organization and Room to join your corporation to their Room, so that your employees can perform work in the Room. If your corporation is completely new to Tehama, this means you first need to create a new organization/account in Tehama, and join it as its first user (the Org Admin user). Otherwise, you can simply log in to your existing Tehama organization with your existing Org Admin user role.
Next you can accept the invitation to join your organization to the Room, as a user-only organization in the Room.
Then you can proceed to add members to your organization, if necessary, and propose their membership in the Room. The Room owning organization will provide them with Desktops.
NOTE: If you are an end-user (Staff member) - e.g.: you have been invited to join an existing organization and Room as a Staff member, and you expect to use Tehama only to access a Desktop, so you can perform work - you are in the wrong article. See Getting Started Overview for End-users.
Let's get started.
There are four parts to getting started with Tehama.
- Prerequisites (make sure you are prepared)
- Joining Tehama (create your org (if necessary) and your user)
- Tehama Room Creation (create and/or connect to a Room)
- Tehama Administration (add users to your org, add/propose users to a Room, and/or generate Desktops)
For more in depth discussions of each facet of Tehama, please see the other user guides available in Tehama's help centre: https://help.tehama.io.
NOTE: Remember that the Tehama Support Team is available for any questions or concerns encountered during (and anytime after) creating and connecting a Tehama Room, and adding members and Desktops to the Room.

Prerequisites
Prerequisites needed to access the Tehama Web UI
The following are the prerequisites you need to have to:
- set up your Tehama account/organization and your own user account, in the Getting Started with Joining Tehama guide,
- create and, optionally connect, a Tehama Room, in the Getting Started with Tehama Room Creation guide, and
- perform organization/Room/Desktop administration tasks, and connect to Desktops, in the Getting Started with Tehama Administration guide.
Item | Description | Requirements |
---|---|---|
A browser | Use this browser to access the Tehama Web UI. | See the list of supported browsers in 'Tehama Web UI' |
A smartphone or tablet with an MFA-code generating app installed, (currently supported apps: the Google Authenticator App1) | Use this device for 2 factor Authentication to the Tehama Web UI, through the Google Authentication App. Optional: The Google Authenticator app is only required for the 'Tehama Credential with MFA' authentication method; not required if you opt to use the 'Google Credential' authentication method. |
iPhone/iPad: iOS 7.0 (or higher) capable device Android: Android 2.3.3 (or higher) capable device |
A host for the Tehama Gateway, only needed if the Room's 'Network Access' is set to 'Tehama Gateway' (two hosts are required if the 'Multiple Gateways' option is to be enabled) |
This is the host machine inside your private network on which you install a 'Tehama Gateway', which is used to provide your Room access to your network. The choice of host depends on the installation method you choose. See Tehama Gateway - Installation and Management to select the best installation method for your network. Optional: A host for the Tehama Gateway is optional. It is only required if the connected organization opts to provide access through a gateway by setting 'Network Access' for the Room to 'Tehama Gateway'. In Standard Rooms, the connected organization may instead opt to provide access through VPN IPSec connections by setting 'Network Access' to 'Multi-Path', or they may opt to provide access only to applications and services in the cloud by setting 'Network Access' to 'Internet Only', neither of which requires the installation of a Tehama Gateway. |
Can be a standalone host or a Virtual Machine. If installing via the automated-script, choose a host that meets the minimum specifications and can be configured as directed in 'Configure your Gateway host (for automated-script-installations' in Tehama Gateway - Installation and Management. Note: The Tehama Gateway does not require a dedicated host. You can run the Gateway on an existing host in your infrastructure as long as it can be configured as required, instead of setting up a host specifically for the purpose (which may require an additional OS license). |
A host device capable of running the Tehama Client and accessing the Tehama Web UI | Use this device to launch and connect to Tehama Desktops. One of these hosts is required for each user for whom you provision a Tehama Desktop. |
See the list of supported Tehama Client hosts (Platform Compatibility) in the Tehama Client Overview |
